Freedom is the theme of the cross-border museum network Rijn Maas in 2025-2026, of which De Locht is also a member.

At De Locht, you can see what freedom means in relation to food in the new exhibition “Freedom in Food.” Throughout our museum, you’ll find numerous locations with stories about growing and processing food, and about developments in agriculture and horticulture. Nowadays, we can choose from a wide variety of food products.

But are you truly free in your choices? What about health and sustainability? What are things like elsewhere in the world when people suffer from hunger? In the exhibition, we show abundance and choices, but we also raise questions about all that abundance.
