Activities

  • Asparagus day

On Sunday, April 26, Museum Village de Locht will be dedicated to asparagus. A great many activities are planned around this regional product. Today, you will get a complete overview of everything related to this seasonal vegetable: seed breeding, planting, harvesting, washing, sorting, peeling, and the further processing of asparagus.

We would be happy to tell you everything about the cultivation method, harvesting, breeding, and varieties. How does it grow? Why is it so expensive? Why is asparagus white? We can answer all those questions. There is a demonstration of the cutting/washing machine. On the lawn stand various machines that have been used over the years in the process of growing and processing asparagus.

In Het Steeltje, the hospitality section of the Mushroom pavilion, we prepare delicious asparagus dishes. Get ready to feast! The baker uses asparagus in his product. The printer is here! In the Brewery, the Gilde Dionysos advises you on wine. And… throughout the entire season, we serve the very best homemade asparagus soup. You simply must try it!

Asparagus is for sale in the Asparagus Pavilion. With the push of a button, you determine the price yourself via the auction clock. Experience how the “clocking” works. There are all kinds of varieties for sale: thick, thin, white, straight, crooked; there is nothing wrong with them, they are all fresh. At 11:00, 13:30, and 15:00, there is an explanation of breeding, planting, harvesting, washing, and auctioning.

Children won’t be bored either. We have developed a scavenger hunt especially for this Asparagus Day. There are coloring pages for preschoolers. They can make paper with the volunteers from LochtKids.

  • Papier scheppen

    Paper making

Making paper from recycled paper is a fun activity for children, as well as an educational and enjoyable one. All children love getting messy. Today, on this Asparagus Day, we are using dried asparagus peels, flowers, and leaves alongside recycled paper for this purpose.

The waste paper must be torn into very small pieces. Then add water, and if you let the mixture sit for a while, a pulp forms. You can optionally process this with an old immersion blender. Because this entire process takes some time, the volunteers prepare this part in advance.

Children are given a paper-making frame and get to make paper. The wet pulp must eventually become a dry sheet of paper. Sieving, wringing out, drying, ironing. Everything will be taken care of under the excellent guidance of our experienced volunteers. Curious?

Give it a try. Make your own paper!

The program features a variety of catchy pieces.

  • Dieren op lentedierendag

    Spring animal day

Do you love animals too? Then come to Museum Village de Locht on Sunday, May 3rd. We will have lots of animals visiting. They will really make you happy. Look, cuddle, and learn. You can pick them up, hold them, cuddle them, and pet them. There are small stuffed animals and reptiles. Do you dare to hold a snake? Let’s see!

The snakes, turtles, and lizards are used to it; they are fine with it. The handlers share fun facts about these animals, their behavior, and the best way to interact with them. Pick them up and hold them; they are very sweet. Just like all the other animals with us today: dogs, rabbits, tame rats, a guinea pig, and a golden hamster.

And… there are also plenty of other activities. Baking dog biscuits in the Bakehouse, crafting an animal-shaped cookie tin, making a nameplate with the blacksmith, creating an animal image with the printer, weaving along with the basket maker, and drawing with the schoolmaster. There is a beekeeper who can tell you everything about the life of bees. The auction clock is ticking and there is music.

You’re sure to have fun! Cuddling, learning, and doing.

The Nag’s Head was founded in September 1997 as an initiative of a number of people from Nederweert with a past in the folk dance world. The name of the band is, how could it be otherwise, the same as the name of many pubs in Ireland. And the band’s motto is just as appropriate: “A song to a beer”.

Since its inception, The Nag’s Head has been playing cozy pub songs, melancholic traditionals, world-famous folk songs, moving ballads and the instrumental songs are not forgotten.

  • Mart Vervoort

Mart Vervoort zorgt deze middag voor een vrolijke noot met zijn accordeon en zang.

  • mok bloem

    Mug pimping

Children love crafting; it stimulates their imagination. Painting, gluing, coloring, cutting, working with a glue gun—it is all possible and allowed with us. At home, children often do not have the opportunity to be creative. They lack materials, are not allowed to make a mess, or their parents do not have time to supervise them.

Among our volunteers is an enthusiastic group that regularly organizes a crafting activity on Sunday afternoons. Time and again, they come up with a special craft project, usually made from waste materials such as glass jars, empty tins, or old mugs. In any case, they make as much use as possible of natural and leftover materials, just as was customary in the past.

En wat kunnen kinderen leuke dingen maken! Ze zijn zo trots op het resultaat, een mooi aandenken aan een dagje Museumdorp de Locht.
