Today we focus on flax and wool. What is replenishing, hateing, retting and vomiting? How is it possible that wool felts? Why are linen and wool fabrics so precious? You will find an answer to all these questions and probably many more today in Open Air Museum de Locht: from flax to linen, from fur to thread. There is a lot to see and experience: lectures, children can make bracelets from wool, how do you press oil from linseed? Go check it out. Try a piece of flax flan or flaxseed pancakes. The bakers bake special products with linseed. Visit the spice stand. Enjoy the cheerful folk music of Ontfanck Gheselle. On Sundays, a spinster is regularly present in our museum. Today we have a whole group of spinsters, who show you how to spin wool and linen. Other techniques such as weaving, band weaving, carding weaving or knitting are also discussed. Maybe you’d like to give it a try yourself? There are also demonstrations of other ancient crafts. Over the centuries, flax and wool have played an important role in the history of this region. Just like today, we pay a lot of attention to the entire processing process in the museum’s regular collection. In the future we want to give all kinds of workshops such as spinning, weaving and felting. Interested? Be surprised! All the more reason to visit our museum on 29 September. Come and have a look.
